Gastric Band

Gastric band surgery is a form of weight loss surgery.  It can provide a solution to people who have not been able to lose weight through diet and exercise.  By making you feel full quicker, a gastric band encourages you to eat less.  Over time this leads to weight loss.

A gastric band is a band that is placed around the stomach, dividing it into two sections.  The first section fills quickly with food and makes you feel full.  Gradually, the food passes through into the second section of the stomach and is processed by the body as normal.

The band is fitted during keyhole surgery, which is far less invasive and does not result in the scarring associated with traditional surgery.  The band stays fitted for life, providing a long term weight loss solution.

Cosmetic Surgery

Liposuction and tummy tuck are both types of cosmetic surgery which are often confused with weight loss surgery, although neither should be considered to be a method of weight loss.  In order to get the best results from any kind of cosmetic surgery, you should already be at your ideal weight.

Liposuction involves removing fat through small holes in the skin, producing a slimmer look.  It can be used when you are at your ideal weight but still have stubborn areas of fat that do not respond to exercise.  Liposuction can be combined with laser treatment in order to provide a more effective, less invasive procedure by liquefying the fat, making it easier to remove.

A tummy tuck is a plastic surgery procedure designed to tackle loose skin around the abdomen.  Often a result of weight loss, either through diet and exercise, gastric band surgery or after pregnancy, loose skin can be cut away in order to provide a smooth, taught look.  Tummy tuck surgery is often combined with liposuction when loose skin is accompanied by stubborn fat.
